Skipton Castle

We set out just after 10. Sam and Theo took the rubbish to the bin.

We were on our way to the Castle.

It's a solid piece of work, dating back to Norman times, though it got pretty heavily damaged in the Civil War. There are plenty of rooms to explore, but their policy of allowing children to roam at will and touch anything comes at the expense of the rooms being rather bare.

There's an impressive 450 year old yew in the courtyard,

Overall, the children enjoyed exploring the castle but weren't entirely sure what to make of it. Perhaps that's a cultural thing reflecting the relative place of castles in Norwegian and British folklore. Have to chat about that with the Norwegian relatives!
